      The Key to the Universe

Or a Spiritual Interpretation of Numbers and Symbols

by Harriette Augusta Curtiss and Frank Homer Curtiss

      Review

The Key to the Universe is a fascinating text exploring spirituality and mysticism through the eyes of Harriette Augusta Curtiss. Any readers familiar with Curtiss will be reminded of her involvement with the Order of Christian Mystics and the themes of her earlier works including: "Gems of Mysticism," and "Letters from the Teacher." This book presents a valiant combined effort between Curtiss and her husband to bring spiritual truth, as they see it, to the forefront of religious texts.

To Curtiss, the suffering of the world-- a deep famine of the word of God and a distinct lack of True Believers-- is proof that the world is demanding a new, authoritative text on religious belief and practice. With this text, Curtiss aims to fill this void and provides the reader with a succinct guide to a range of mystical symbols in the world around them, including the mystical significance of numbers and shapes. She shares with the reader that during a particularly dark period, when she herself endured an episode of "soul hunger" she found guidance in symbols around her and hopes that this book will guide others who feel similarly that their lives and their spirituality are lacking in ways they cannot explain. In this book, Curtiss hopes to explore some of life's bigger questions and provide real answers with mysticism, symbolism, and a deep dedication to spirituality.

The Key to the Universe is crafted with an elegance and focus unmatched in Harriette Augusta Curtiss' previous works. This text is an interesting read for anyone interested in specific symbols, numbers, and shapes, and their hidden meanings. Furthermore, this book stands out as a wonderful guide for students of mysticism and practitioners of this very distinct form of spirituality.

      Excerpt

These are days of great unrest in all walks of life. Many are running to and fro seeking a firm founda tion on which to erect their Temple of Truth. These are the days foretold by the prophet Amos: Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. 1 It takes but little insight to see in present day conditions the literal fulfillment of the prophecy: For many shall come in my name, saying, I am' Christ; and shall de ceive many. Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.2 But that we may not be deceived there must be some firm foundation on which' we can rest assured and build. Where shall this be found? This is the ques tion which this volume seeks to answer through the interpretation of the spiritual meanings of the um changing symbols handed down to mankind in the only exact science, numbers. It does not profess to be the 1 and only Book of Wisdom, the only true and satisfy ing solution of the world's problems, but it does strive to set forth an exposition of the framework on which the cosmic philosophy of the ancient Wisdom Religion was based (subject to the human limitations of the transmitting personalities), together with such inspi rational Light as has been vouchsafed to the authors, who make no claim to aught save the office of trans mitters and distributors of the sp1r1tua1 food especially stored and preserved in the storehouse of the King, in readiness for this time of famine.
